You can lean on our trip insurance plans for a wide range of unexpected incidents that may come up during your trip.
When you travel with a Travelex policy, you could be reimbursed for unanticipated expenses or losses that come up due to trip delays and cancellations, emergency room visits, missing luggage, and more.
Benefits and coverage levels vary among our plans, so be sure to review each plan’s full benefit list when you get a quote.
We know that every trip you take is unique, which is why we give you coverage options.
The travel protection plan that’s best for you depends on your trip type. Your trip details — like the destination, trip length, and planned activities — will help you choose Travelex insurance plan that’s right for you.
Our most popular travel insurance plans are Travel Basic and Travel Select. Travel Basic offers essential coverage at a budget-conscious price. If you’re looking for a plan that can give you more money back for emergency medical care and the option to include extra coverage like the Cancel for Any Reason (CFAR) and Adventure Sports upgrades, then Travel Select may be more suitable for your trip.
Your trip cost is the total of all pre-paid, non-refundable expenses, such as train, cruise and flight tickets; hotel fees; and tour payments.
Tip: Make sure you keep the receipts from all your travel purchases to help you calculate your trip cost and in case you need to file a claim and you need to share them with us.
Traveling with others? Calculate each travel companion’s trip costs separately based on your receipts.

If you have a medical condition, it might give you trouble during your trip just like it can at home.
Here’s the good news: You can get coverage for pre-existing medical conditions on a Travelex policy if you purchase the Travel America plan within three days of your last trip payment or the Travel Select plan within 15 days of your first trip payment. You also need to insure all you pre-paid non-refundable trip expenses.
This early purchase benefit is called the Pre-existing Medical Condition Exclusion Waiver, and more information is available in the policy documents and on our website.
If you have a Travelex insurance policy and need to cancel your trip, we may be able to reimburse you for your covered trip costs.
You can cancel your trip before you leave as long as the reason for cancellation is covered by your policy.
Here are some examples of cancellation reasons you can choose coverage for:
If you, your traveling companion, or non-traveling family member have a serious unforeseen injury or sickness.
If you are laid off or involuntarily terminated from work.
If your flight is canceled because of inclement weather.
For more examples, please read our Trip Cancellation benefit page.
Keep in mind that we need to know about your trip cancellation within 72 hours of when you cancel the trip.
Want to be able to cancel your trip for any reason? Learn more about the Cancel for Any Reason upgrade (CFAR) upgrade, which can be added to the Travel Select plan.
Your coverage can depend on when you buy your travel insurance plan — and the earlier you buy it, the better.
You can purchase our Travel Basic and Travel Select plans up to 11:59 p.m. on the day before your departure, regardless of the first trip payment date.
You can purchase the our Travel America plan up to 10 days before the departure date on an existing reservation, or at the time of booking a new reservation if within 10 days of departure.
Our recommendation? Buy a travel insurance policy as soon as you book any element of your trip. (Think: a flight ticket or a hotel booking.) Though you may want to wait to purchase a policy, there are extra benefits if you choose to purchase soon after your first trip payment:
If you buy the Travel Select plan within 15 days of your first trip payment and insure your full pre-paid non-refundable trip costs, you’ll have coverage for pre-existing conditions and financial default included in your policy.
If you choose either the Travel Basic or Travel Select plan, we offer a 15-day free look period in case you change your mind about your policy and want a refund. This means that if within 15 days of purchase you are not satisfied with your plan and have not yet departed or filed a claim, we will refund your plan cost.
